The race to get 5G rolled out is slowly coming to a close, as networks are beginning to release their 5G networks all around the globe. It’s expected that Apple will be releasing a new phone in 2020, and that it will be 5G compatible. Now, a new reports has claimed that perhaps all three phones that Apple will be releasing will be 5G compatible.
Apple is set to release three new phones: a 5.4 inch, 6.7 inch, and a cheaper 6.1 inch follow-up to the iPhone XR. Now there are predictions that all of the three will support 5G, despite initial reports that said only the 5.4 and 6.7 inch models would. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said: “Apple has more resource for developing the 5G iPhone after the acquisition of Intel baseband business,” meaning that the Android 5G will decrease in price point.
Kuo also thinks that Android phones will also be 5G compatible, but the sub-6GHz version of 5G rather than the mmWave, which is speedier. He said: “The key is that consumers will think that 5G is the necessary function in 2H20. Therefore, iPhone models which will be sold at higher prices have to support 5G for winning more subsidies from mobile operators and consumers’ purchase intention.” He believes that Apple is willing to bet that their customers will want to take advantage of a variety of 5G network options, and so they’re willing to spend a bit more initially.
Apple has recently acquired a large portion of Intel’s modem business, at a cost of a whopping $1 billion.
