John Lennon’s Murder

John Lennon was famously murdered in cold blood on December 8, 1980. Earlier on the same day, he had signed an autograph for a fan named Mark David Chapman. Lennon and Yoko Ono then went to a recording session. After the session, they were on the way back to their apartment in Manhattan when Chapman came back and shot Lennon four times in the chest.

The Aftermath

Chapman never denied his crime and even confessed, rather than go to trial. He was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. He did not flee the scene after murdering Lennon and instead waited for the police while reading a copy of Catcher in the Rye. Thankfully, the parole board has chosen to adhere to the “to Life” portion of his sentence and have repeatedly denied his parole. After the murder, several Beetles songs rose to the top of the charts to honor the late John Lennon.
