After being fired from Ally McBeal, Robert Downey Jr.’s career took a dive. He was essentially blacklisted for several years before making a comeback in his middle age. His resurgence can be attributed to Mel Gibson’s film The Singing Detective from 2003. The problem was that no one would insure Downey Jr. until Mel Gibson gave him a chance and paid his insurance bond. From there, he appeared in a few other movies, including Tropic Thunder, before landing his biggest role ever in the 2008 Iron Man film that launched the MCU.
