Olive Oatman
When Olive Oatman was 14-years old, she and her family were attacked by a local Native American tribe. Her parents were killed during the attack, but Olive and her sister were taken as prisoner. The girls were treated horribly as slaves for the tribe, and after a year, they were sold to the Mohave tribe. Olive and her sister remained with the tribe for several years, and while with them, both young women received face tattoos, which you can see here.

Born Myra Maybelle Shirley, but best known as Belle Starr, this female outlaw lived an exciting life in the Wild West, and she was mysteriously murdered at the age of 40, which is still unsolved. You might have heard of Belle Starr if you are a fan of Westerns, as she has been immortalized in print and on the silver screen, and she is still known as the “Bandit Queen” and the “Female Jesse James.”
